The Rocket Mortgage Classic is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour. Its first staging was in 2019 at the Detroit Golf Club in Detroit, Michigan. Rocket Mortgage Classic was used to replace the Quicken Loans National on the PGA Tour schedule.
For the 2019 season, it served as the first PGA Tour event ever held in the city of Detroit. The tournament featured 156 of the world’s top players competing for a $7.3 million purse over four days and 72 holes. To embody the spirit of Detroit, the event also featured great entertainment, cuisine, and social activities on and off the course.
Rocket Mortgage Classic Beneficiaries
On April 9, 2019, Rocket Mortgage Classic unveiled the vision for charitable efforts tied to Detroit’s first-ever PGA Tour event. Its aim is to be a launchpad for a long-term positive impact. Meanwhile, the tournament also created the Rocket Mortgage Classic Birdies for Charity program to help increase the amount of positive change the event has in Detroit.
The Birdies for Charity program is an interactive and unique means by which nonprofit organizations raise funds and awareness using the excitement of a PGA Tour event. Through this program, therefore, all registered non-profit organizations that apply will collect donations based on the total number of birdies. That is strokes below par on a hole, shot by PGA Tour pros during tournament play. Hence, the lower the golf scores, the greater the impact for local non-profits.
Also, the program allows all donors to direct funds to their chosen organizations. They can either offer a set donation amount or get into the action on the course by pledging a pre-dominated amount per birdie made by the pros in the tournament’s competition.
Additionally, Rocket Mortgage Classic announced that they have equally selected several local beneficiaries. They include; the Detroit Children’s Fund, Midnight Golf, The First Tee of Greater Detroit, the Greater Palmer Park Community, and Detroit Golf Club Caddie Scholarship.
